Welcome!

AMG Audiology

Our audiologists use advanced technology to conduct comprehensive diagnostic hearing evaluations for both adults and children, including infants. A diagnostic evaluation detects and measures the severity of hearing impairment and loss for patients. We also fit and dispense amplification/hearing aids as well as assistive listening devices based on the patient’s lifestyle and their type and degree of hearing impairment. Assessments for amplification are done following the comprehensive evaluation to determine the best hearing solution for the patient and their families. We also offer rehabilitation, education and counseling to our patients whether they are new to our practice or have been utilizing our audiology services for years.

TOP 5 REASONS YOU SHOULD HAVE YOUR HEARING TESTED

  1. Hearing loss is extremely common.
    • Hearing loss is the third most common chronic condition for older Americans.
    • People with diabetes are twice as likely to have hearing loss.
    • 1 out of every 5 people over the age of 12 are impacted by hearing loss.

  2. There is a correlation between hearing loss and dementia.
    • Risk of dementia increases among those with a hearing loss of greater than 25dB and increases with the severity of the hearing loss.
    • Studies show that for people aged 60 and older, more than 1/3 of the risk of dementia was associated with hearing loss.
    • Risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease increases with hearing loss – for every 10dB of loss, the risk increases by 20%.

  3. There is a link between hearing loss and depression.
    • Studies have shown that people age 50 and older with untreated hearing loss were more likely to report the following: depression, anxiety, anger and emotional instability.
    • The degree of depression and other mental issues increases with the severity of the hearing loss.

  4. Use it or lose it!
    • Untreated hearing loss can cause Auditory Deprivation, which is when the hearing centers of the brain become weak from lack of use.
    • With auditory deprivation there is a reduction in the brain’s ability to understand speech.

  5. The changes in hearing aids and services have made it easier and less costly to get help.
    • The cost of high quality, custom-programmed digital hearing aids has changed dramatically in recent years, resulting in more people being able to take advantage of high-end technology or any level of technology that meets their acoustic and financial needs.

It is important to receive a hearing evaluation annually because hearing loss usually occurs gradually over time, making it personally harder to notice.
